The focus for this project is on our Transitional Housing Program - specifically our Second Stage Housing expansion. Currently we are undergoing a Campaign Readiness Study looking at our funding base and what the environment and capacity is to raise the approximately $6 million required to build the new facility. This will provide us with a barometer for timing of a Capital Campaign. In order to prepare for this opportunity we need to have a good foundation of understanding the impacts on our current operations, what this new project will offer the Society and the Region as well as what challenges we may face in operating this new facility. Current challenges include transportation for clients, limited resources and stigma surrounding domestic violence in smaller communities.

Rowan House is a short-term emergency women’s shelter located in the Foothills of Southern Alberta. Our goal is to provide women and their children a non-judgmental, safe environment that nourishes feelings of self-worth, lends an opportunity for healing and personal growth, and provides temporary housing while facilitating transition back into the community. Rowan House trauma informed services take into account an understanding of trauma in all aspects of service delivery. The aim is to put safety first and specifically avoid re-traumatizing those who seek our services. Safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment are the core values at Rowan House. We serve the rural Foothills including the communities of Okotoks, High River, Black Diamond, Turner Valley, Millarville, Longview, Blackie, Nanton, Vulcan, Claresholm and the surrounding area.
